Rape Is No Joke, Yet Some Laugh

Yet again another person in the public eye minimizes rape by referring to rape in a joking manner.

LeAnn Rimes in a recent interview with Joan Rivers state she (LeAnn) had sex for the first time when she was 15? Or 16.  LeAnn goes on to joke that she “raped” her boyfriend.

Okay, we know what she means, she wanted it so bad, she came on to her boyfriend in a rather strong and/or aggressive “got to have it” manner.  But to joke and say it was “rape” is just not right.  Rape is a serious topic.  It is not something to joke about, demean or blow off.

And dear Miss LeAnn, you did exactly that, you joked, demeaned and made light of a very serious subject.  I for one, suggest you think before you speak.  Choose your words carefully.

To use words such as LeAnn did maybe okay within your tight knit group of friends while you are sitting around chatting.  But to make a statement like LeAnn did in public and for the world to see is WRONG!

Unfortunately, you can’t take it back.  You could apologize, but what good would that do?  Your apology will not be covered by the media as highly as your indiscretion was, no, it would be on the “back page”, “in small print”, “in the lower corner” where no one reads or notices.

Chalk one up for inexperience, immaturity and not thinking above herself.
